Where your travel runs already live

If you recorded a run, walk, ride, or hike on a trip with an Apple Watch, your iPhone, or an app like Strava, Garmin, or Nike Run Club, it was almost certainly saved to Apple Health with its full GPS route. You don't have to remember which app you used in which country. They all write to the same place.

That's the quiet advantage of Apple Health as a home base: your Lisbon parkrun from three years ago and last month's trail in the Rockies are in the same database, waiting to be drawn.

Your running passport

Zooming the map is the emotional part. Counting is the addictive part. MoveMap keeps a passport of the countries you've run in, detected automatically from where your GPS routes actually fall - no checking boxes, no manual "I visited here." If you ran there, it counts.

It's a surprisingly moving stat. Most people badly underestimate their own number until they see it: the airport-layover jog, the destination-wedding walk, the conference 10K all quietly add up. We go deeper on that here: how many countries have you run in?

Why this beats a manual travel tracker

There are plenty of lovely apps for logging trips - Been, Visited, Polarsteps and the like. They're map-first, but they rely on you to tell them where you went. That's the difference.

MoveMap doesn't ask you to remember anything. It reads the GPS you already recorded by moving through a place under your own power. A country on your MoveMap passport isn't one you tapped - it's one you actually ran, walked, or rode. That makes the map honest in a way a check-in list can't be.

Get more travel runs onto the map

  • Bring the watch, or start the phone. A workout only maps if something recorded the GPS. A quick "Outdoor Walk" counts just as much as a run.
  • Airplane mode is fine. GPS works without a cellular signal, so you can record a route abroad with no roaming data and it still lands in Apple Health.
  • Walks and hikes count too. The city you walked all day is as much a part of your map as anywhere you ran.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to have used one specific app while travelling?

No. Anything that writes to Apple Health works - Apple Watch, Strava, Garmin, Nike Run Club, and more. MoveMap reads them all together.

Will runs from years ago show up?

Yes. MoveMap imports your full Apple Health history, so old trips appear alongside recent ones.

Does it count countries automatically?

Yes. MoveMap detects the countries your routes fall in from the GPS itself and keeps a passport of them. No manual logging.

Does my location data leave my phone?

No. The map and the passport are built on-device from Apple Health. There's no account and nothing is uploaded.
